BTW he mentions divorce and remarriage, and the church's blase acceptance of the status quo. If you google up the NYT or use Google Books, 100 years ago right now the papers were full of headlines about the "Divorce Evil" that was sweeping the country . . . naturally, all the churches, Prot. and RC alike, were fulminating against it like the world would come to a screeching halt if just one more state legalized the thing . . . plus ca change, plus c'est le meme fucking chose, ya know?
