Wow. Just wow. So sad he felt he could never openly be himself until his obituary. But good for him for not taking that secret to the grave with him. He wanted people to know the truth.
I salute him too. I'm not sure heartbreaking is the right word, though - he had a long and productive life, serving the nation and his community, and many friends and family who obviously admired and loved him. Poignant, perhaps.
I notice on JMG at least one pissy little queen badmouths Ed for not coming out in his lifetime. But I say it's a very personal choice, and nobody else should judge a person one way the other. Not until you've walked in his shoes and lived in his skin.
