If empathy is established (or not established) in a child's early years, then how we raise children is even more critical. And children are raised well, not just by teaching, but by their own experience of life. Child abuse in all its forms, bullying, threats, indoctrination, all leave their scars.
Another kind of antidote is for everyone who does have basic empathy to never give up working as hard as possible to ensure the extreme right does not get their hands on any form of political power. We cannot afford to give up because the consequences are dire if we do.
Debra, you are so right (or left) and there needs to be more awareness of this phenomena.
Without empathy, those haters will never change. I simply hope there are enough people in the world who do have empathy and have the power and voices to fight and defend the rights of all.
