I don't know, Frank - things are pretty far gone now. The rabid far-right is banging the drums louder and louder for overthrowing the government and killing everyone they don't like. It's not exactly Nazism, fascism, or any other 20th-century thing, though the totalitarian aspects are - nobody's come up with a proper name for it yet. It's happening all over the world, too - I don't like conspiracy theories, but that suggests to me that Russia somehow is promoting all this upheaval in what were stable democracies.
All this is ugly and abhorrent beyond words. Yet I'm afraid the antidote is not as simple as voting against them, when they are working night and day to gerrymander every state to return a permanent majority in their favor, at both state and federal levels. It doesn't matter who you vote for if your vote simply doesn't count, does it?
On the other hand, the far-left people are spouting a lot of crap that is abhorrent too, and definitely will not attract many votes. Where are the sane, sensible leaders who will speak out forcefully for the middle way between the shithead extremes? All I seem to hear anymore in the news are the foamers and the radicals.
A house divided cannot stand. We need some skilled carpenters, but I don't know where to find them.
Yes, go out and vote, but that seems more and more like pissing in the wind, especially when "they" are already poised to question, nay, overturn, any election they do not win. Life as we knew it has already been irrevocably altered. The question may be how adaptable are we and can we survive with our "DNA" and integrity intact?

You stop the madness by speaking up and out, and voting up and down ballot for representation for all people not just white cisgender men.
