I Am Weary

And weary doesn't even begin to describe my sadness and disgust. The oil spill off the coast of California is just the latest example of human destructiveness. Leon and I just recently drove along that section of the California highway with views of the ocean and off-shore oil rigs. The oil that keeps our millions of cars and trucks moving. Our way of life has a hold on us that is beyond redemption. Being a creature having a bond with the ocean, I cannot even watch the news coverage without emotion: anger, sadness, grief, resignation, horror. I don't know how to cope with all that is wrong with humanity and the world we are leaving in our wake.

Human greed knowns no bounds and it's disgusting, you're right. We'll kill everyone and everything just to satisfy it.

I wish I had something to say that would make you feel better. Sometimes the world is simply overwhelming.

It's very sad, this oil spill - but there have been others, much bigger, and nature has recovered. (Can you say Exxon Valdez?)
It's not The End of the World just yet. This too shall pass.

But I do understand your feeling of despair - it's the disasters of the moral world (Trumpism, etc.) that depress me, not so much those of the physical world. The Earth always tends to heal itself - but is there any cure for human stupidity?

I, too, am pissed off by it, especially since it went unreported for so long.
I want the company brought to their knees.
