Creator of Rainbow Flag, Gilbert Baker, Dead at 65
A beautiful, joyous symbol that has been adopted all over the world to proclaim our pride. Especially dear to those of us who grew up in a time when we struggled privately with our emerging but inevitable identity. May it continue to wave with dignity against so much hatred, prejudice, violence and lack of understanding.
Sad news. But if we could each do just one truly wonderful thing in our lives, it would be hard to beat making a beautiful symbol that means so much to so many.
Some crappy little pissants are already trolling the news sites with comments about "the rainbow flag doesn't represent me," or "I never liked it." Well I say fuck them. I love it. I don't usually wear it or fly it from the front porch, but when I want a symbol of gaiety -- what could be more lovely and poetic than the rainbow?

RIP Gilbert.
PS -- is that Leon in the last pic? Great shot.
Amen!
Yeah, that's Leon...25 or so years ago.
What a beautiful symbol he gave to our community!
