Supreme Court to Hear Prop 8 and DOMA Arguments
Read the article on the Scotus Blog above link, probably the horse's mouth in this case. Sounds very legal and iffy. Sounds a little like the Supremes are trying to wiggle their way out of making any real Constitutional decisions.
And here's a link to the Prop8Tracker blog.
Any other insights?
I wouldn't try to read too much into the tea leaves at this point. I posted links to several other commentaries over on my blog, but all anyone really, truly knows for sure is that at least 4 justices thought these two cases were worth looking at - either pro or con. That's all anybody can know until the Court rules.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd bet that it's going to be a mainly favorable ruling for us. The country has come a long way in the last ten years, and the old adage is true that "the Supreme Court follows the election returns."
I'm cautiously optimistic.
ReplyDeleteI think it is significant that the Court will answer questions as to the standing of the proponents of Prop. 8 and DOMA -- questions that weren't even asked of them.
