Debates Are Obsolete

Here's a suggestion:

Instead of holding political debates, why not just formulate pertinent and intelligent questions and submit them directly to independent, unaffiliated fact checkers.  Granted, this would remove most of the entertainment value of debates and much of the "who's the bigger liar" commentary from the political blogs.

And while we're at it, why not require all political advertising to be submitted to the same fact checking scrutiny?  Maybe we'd finally be able to believe some of the ads that we are bombarded with.

Here's one site to check out: PolitiFact

We need more than two party candidates to choose from. It's the same old same old voting for the lesser of two evils while holding my nose.

Naw Frank, the lying ads and phoney debates ARE the point of it all. Otherwise, people would see exactly how the world really works, and the pols would all be out of a job. It's all a dog and pony show.

Stan, I know the feeling - but you look around the world at countries with multi-party systems and you either see chronic political gridlock and dysfunction, or the Left is so divided that the Right has a lock on power, like in Canada. So I don't know what the answer is.

Much of the debate really is about the "entertainment". Very frustrating when our rights are on the line....

You're so right. And Russ Manley really summed it up well here, too. What a waste!
