White Party After the Earl That Never Happened

OK. So I'm sixty-two and I've never been to a circuit party. But the White Party in Provincetown this weekend is probably as close as I'll get - or care to get - to a real circuit party. I'm sure it was tame by comparison. More fun than frenzy.

The thing is, I'm not generally a party-type person, although back in the dying age of Disco, I could spend hours on the dance floor and get a real high on the music...though I never was much of a drinker.

My friend Eddie got an invite to this White Party because he knows the host and Eddie asked me to go along. The only condition - wear white.

I can do that.

....Despite the fact that I've never "fit in" with the party crowd. Especially the PTown party crowd. Folks with cash to burn. Folks with houses and condos along the shore or in the West End. Folks who can drop the equivalent of my monthly pay on a night out. After all, Leon and I are mere trailer trash - camped out at Coastal Acres, where we grill our burgers instead of ordering the anorexic entrees at the local eateries.

But that was all the more reason to go check out the "White Party". Like the opposite of slumming. Whatever the word is, that is the opposite of slumming. (No, not "hob-knobbing"). So, Yeah, OK, I'll go along, stay for twenty minutes or so, then leave.

But I was pleasantly surprised at how good a time I had. We stayed from "two 'till tea". (Then went off to the Boat Slip for a free pass to Tea Dance - being ushered in past the paying crowd like celebrities, just because we were "White Party People").

So, the White Party was a hoot - watching all the costumes and hot guys - and not so hot guys too. Young and old, "conservative" dressers like me, in just white, and the real flamboyant guys with feathers and puffs and heels and fishnets.

I had three drinks from the open bar ...one vodka and cranberry, one cranberry and vodka and one cranberry with just a splash of vodka...(the bartender chuckled)... like I said, I'm not a good drinker. But, being a cheap drunk meant that basically two drinks got me a mild Grey Goose buzz on ...which I hadn't done in quite some time.

So, here's a look at the PTown Labor Day Weekend White Party.

Men in Heels
Febreeze, Carlos and me

Aliens of All Kinds

Marshmallows or Cotton Balls?
Me and Eddie ... its all who you know, not necessarily who you are.

Woof
Need Some Painting Done?
The Gap or Banana Republic?
Can we check that out?
On the Inside, Looking Out.

Need I mention that Earl fizzled out before reaching the Cape. All was intact when we arrived Saturday morning. The Weather Channel kept us home for two days waiting out the storm which we could have done in our trailer...had we known. But here we are again in one of our favorite places.
