Blackberries

Picked wild blackberries this morning. While I prefer black raspberries, the blackberries are on the hill in back of the house, so ...
Benni was picking too.  Never saw a dog eat a berry let alone pick them. (He ate all his).
Plants on the deck - its been a great growing season.

Nice! We just had some fresh blackberries yesterday and they were to die for! Hope yours are as good.

I have a Bird of Paradise plant like that too (that big leaf plant in the corner) but in the over 20 years I've had it it's never bloomed.
The berries look real good.

Another plant lover...Actually, the big leafed plant is a strelizia nicolai (http://www.floridata.com/ref/s/stre_nic.cfm) a giant cousin of Bird of Paradise, a smaller-leafed plant which is also growing in that same container. I was greatly surprised last year when the Bird flowered after more than 15 years. I don't know what was different last year, but it did not flower this year. See post for April 13 2009: (http://reluctantrebel.blogspot.com/2009/04/bird-of-paradise.html)

Thanks Frank. I didn't know that. The garden shop where it was bought just said it was a Bird of Paradise plant. My partner bought it for me over 20 years ago when I lived in Atlanta. He said he only paid like $20 bucks for it.
I love it but it has gotten huge over the years and needs re potting living here now in NJ.
